Tonight’s game between the Reds and Kansas City Royals was cancelled, however the two teams will face off in a doubleheader Wednesday, a MLB spokesperson said in a media release Tuesday. First pitch of game one at Kansas City’s Kauffman Stadium Wednesday will be at 5:05 p.m., eastern time.

Tuesday’s night’s game was cancelled “out of an abundance of caution” and to allow for additional testing within the Reds’ organization, the MLB spokesperson said.

As a part of MLB’s restart plan, both games in Wednesday’s doubleheader will be seven innings instead of the traditional nine.

The Reds announced Saturday that an unnamed player had tested positive for COVID-19 after the team defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-1 Friday night. The remaining two games against the Pirates on Saturday and Sunday were cancelled, with no makeup date announced yet.

Multiple media reports since Saturday indicate additional testing of Reds players has resulted in no additional positive tests.

The Reds were part of MLB’s first shortened doubleheader this year. The Reds and Detroit Tigers played two seven-inning games Aug. 2. The Reds defeated the Tigers in both games 4-3 and 4-0.
