A report from NBC Chicago, who broke the news first, indicate the Reds and Cubs will play Thursday, August 11 in Dyersville, have a day off Friday, then return to Cincinnati to play the final two games of a weekend series at Great American Ball Park. The MLB confirmed the details on Aug. 20.

The Reds will be the home team for the game.

The inaugural Field of Dreams game last week between the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees was widely viewed as a huge success with elements of nostalgia, stunning visuals, and a thrilling finish. The ninth inning alone saw six runs, all from home runs and all from star players. In the top half of the inning, the Yankees stormed back to take an 8-7 lead, off the homers of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.

But the Sox answered with a walk-off homer in the bottom half of the inning, with shortstop Tim Anderson playing hero and ending the game on a two-run homer.

“Following the outstanding presentation of last week’s inaugural game between the White Sox and Yankees, it’s an honor to represent Reds Country as the home team in next year’s game,” Phil Castellini, Reds President & Chief Operating Officer said in a statement.
