‘Know your role and shut your mouth;’ Chiefs TE Travis Kelce responds to Cincinnati mayor

KANSAS CITY, MO — Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, former UC Bearcat, had some choice words to the mayor of Cincinnati, Aftab Pureval, following the Chiefs, 23-20, win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Sunday night’s AFC Championship game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

“Hey, I got some wise words for that Cincinnati mayor,” Kecle said during a postgame interview to CBS Sports’ Jim Nantz. “Know you role and shut your mouth, you jabroni! You got to fight, for your right, to party!”

Pureval responded on Twitter.

“Yeah. Deserved that,” he wrote. “Congrats to KC on a well-fought win, and good luck in Arizona. Proud of our fans and our Bengals for the energy all year. Who Dey!”

Pureval released a video proclaiming Sunday, January 29, as “They Gotta Play Us Day,” according to our news partner WCPO in Cincinnati.

The mayor mentioned how the Bengals are heading to “Burrowhead” Stadium, referring to Bengals safety Mike Hilton’s nickname for Arrowhead Stadium when he was mic’d up for the tv program “Inside the NFL.”

The mayor also suggested Joe Burrow get a paternity test to confirm “whether or not he’s (Patrick Mahome’s) father.”

The proclamation video got some mixed reactions, with some saying it’s added fuel to the fire for the Chiefs.

Pureval issued a semi-apology a few hours after the post.

“My competitive juices and love for cincy got the best of me,” Pureval tweeted. “My bad. Staying hungry and humble. See you Sunday. Who Dey baby!”

He also has a bet with Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas for the second straight year.

With the Bengals losing, Pureval will send for Graeter’s.

Kansas City will play Philadelphia in the Super Bowl on February 12 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona at 6:30 p.m.
