Xenia creates festive game for community to safely celebrate Christmas

XENIA — This holiday season, the city of Xenia has came up with an idea to help families and businesses celebrate Christmas safely amid the coronavirus pandemic, and the community is encouraged to participate.

Chances are, you are familiar with Elf on the Shelf, which is a common tradition that makes an appearance around Christmas every year.

This year, the city has placed 15 of the elves in local businesses and wants locals to participate in a scavenger hunt to find them.

In order to play, you just have to download the game board from the city’s website or Facebook page.

According to Christina Schaefer, Xenia’s Public Relations Coordinator, there are clues being provided just in case you get stuck.

“We’re sharing clues as we get them, and all you have to do is get that board and fill it out,” said Schaefer. “I found elf number 8, and I found it in Carson’s Treasures, for example.”

The game was originally just created to help the community celebrate Christmas safely, but they are hoping it will become a regular part of the city’s hometown Christmas due to all of the positive feedback.

“Hopefully it gets people out walking around to know what’s in Xenia and see that we have a lot of local businesses and great people running those businesses who are trying to provide them with as much holiday cheer as we can,” said Schaefer.

Once you fill out all nine squares, you have until Monday Dec. 21st to turn the gameboard in at the Xenia City Building, and you will then be eligible to win a Christmas basket.
