DAYTON — A woman has learned her sentence after the overdose death of her 5-year-old grandson.

Stephanie Shanks, 60, pleaded guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of endangering children, according to court documents.
By entering a guilty plea, Shanks agreed to a prison term of four to six years.

As News Center 7 previously reported, Charles Brown, 5, was found dead at a home on Benning Place in Dayton on March 30, 2024.
Brown had a lethal dose of fentanyl, fluoro fentanyl, and xylazine in his system, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
Shanks babysat Brown, his twin sister, and his 3-year-old brother on the weekends while their mother worked,
In exchange for her plea, one count of child endangering and a drug possession charge were dropped.
