The 50 cent increase in price is due to the continuing egg shortage caused by Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), also known as Bird Flu.

Egg prices have increased as Bird Flu numbers continue to rise across the country.
“The continuing egg shortage caused by HPAI (Bird Flu) has caused a dramatic increase in egg prices. Consumers and restaurants are being forced to make difficult decisions,” Waffle House said in a statement.
The temporary 50 cent charge per egg has been added to all menus, according to the statement.
“Rather than increasing prices across the menu, this is a temporary targeted surcharge tied to the unprecedented rise in egg prices,” the statement said.
Eggs will remain on the menu as long as they are available, and the company will continue to monitor egg prices and adjust or remove the surcharge as market conditions allow.
It is unclear how long the shortage will last, or how long the surcharge will be in place.
