The Ohio Department of Transportation’s dominant solution, brine, can easily be washed away making it not a good option for the forecasted freezing rain.
“Our crews will be utilizing salt, and we will remain on the roads through the duration of the storm,” Mandi Dillion, public information officer with ODOT said.

While ODOT crews monitor the roads, drivers should be monitoring their tires and should stay off the road if possible.
“The biggest thing is probably gonna be tires, there’s a lot of issues with tires right now. Especially after finding out the first couple of snows, that the tires you might have are not necessarily holding up to what they should be,” Dustin Shafner with AAA Huber Heights said.
According to AAA, car tires lose one pound per square inch for every ten-degree drop in air temperature.
Shafner suggested checking your tread and tire pressure when these cold snaps move through.
Even AES is on standby with high winds anticipated.
