Another 911 caller said they heard an explosion and then saw “a ginormous fire.”

New body and cruiser camera video from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office shown on News Center 7 at 5:00, showed the massive fire first responders saw when they got to the scene.

“Look at this, there’s nothing we can do,” one deputy said.

They then turned their attention to getting other residents from potential danger. They also cleared the roads for fire trucks to get to the fire.

Deputies could hear propane tanks venting from overheating and decided to clear neighbors out.

As night turned to day, the sheer scope of devastation became obvious and overwhelming.

Investigators confirmed that two occupants were in the home at the time of the explosion. Both of them were found deceased. He also said there were a couple of dogs found dead at the scene.

The home itself was a total loss and the debris field from the explosion is bigger than two football fields and other homes were damaged by it.

Neighbors said it looks like a bomb hit and it feels like that’s what jolted them awake.

“It was the most horrifying thing I’ve ever heard in my life, but the boom, the initial boom, it sounded like a bomb,” Tammy Barga said.

Neighbors said they could feel their houses rocking and had things falling off their walls.

Barga told News Center 7 that her husband went running in an unsuccessful attempt to help their neighbors.

“He was running and I was yelling, ‘Stop, stop, stop! Get back, get back!’” she said. “Because all we kept hearing was ‘Boom, boom’ and it just kept going.”
