New Albany Police Chief Greg Jones said at a news conference early this morning that the shooting happened Tuesday night at KDC/One in the 8800 block of Smith Mills Road North.
The company specializes in “beauty, personal care, and home care solutions,” according to its website.
“This has been a very tragic situation. Our thoughts go out to the victims, their families, and everyone who works at this facility,” he said. “We have one confirmed fatality. We have five that were transported to the hospital.”
Jones said six people in total were shot and the person who died was in the building.
He added that medics transported the other five victims to multiple hospitals. Their conditions are unknown currently.
Jones told reporters that officers recovered a weapon at the scene and have identified a person of interest.
“We have a person of interest. We are working to locate them and bring them into custody,” he said.
The shooting remains under investigation.
A mass shooting is defined as “a minimum of four victims shot, either injured or killed, not including any shooter who may also have been killed or injured in the incident,” according to the Gun Violence Archive Website.
