ATLANTA — The nation is remembering former President Jimmy Carter.

As reported on News Center 7 Daybreak, people here in Ohio and around the world are reacting to his death.

As previously reported by News Center 7, the nation’s 39th President of the United States died on Dec. 29 at the age of 100.
Carter served from 1977-1981.
In 1984 President Carter and his wife Rosalynn started the Habitat for Humanity project, where they have worked with over 100,000 volunteers in 14 different countries. In 2002 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize “for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development.”
Jonathan Reckford, Habitat’s Chief Executive Officer released a statement remembering former President Carter.
“President Carter was a treasured friend and inspiring role model who showed the world how to put faith into action. It was one of the great privileges of my life to spend time serving with him. He was a true and tireless champion of affordable housing, social justice, and human rights, and while our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the lasting impact and legacy of service he leaves behind.”

The Montgomery County Democratic Party posted a statement on social media.
“It is with deep sadness that we mourn the loss of President Jimmy Carter. His life showed us the power of leadership rooted in justice for all, and his legacy inspires us to build a more just and compassionate world. Our condolences go out to the Carter family and all who were touched by his life. Rest in peace, President Carter.”
President Biden has scheduled a state funeral in Washington for Carter on Jan. 9, according to the Associated Press.
Biden also declared Jan. 9 as a National Day of Mourning across the U.S. and ordered U.S. flags to fly at half-staff for 30 days from Sunday.
