The State Fire Marshal’s Bureau opened an investigation after a resident noticed a sheen in the Little Beaver Creek on Dec. 18, 2024.
The investigation lasted three months and confirmed the leak came from an underground tank.
The bureau is ordering the owner of the gas station to figure out what caused the leak and report back by April.
The gas station will remain closed until the tank is fixed.
In a social media post, the City of Beavercreek confirmed that the drinking water was not contaminated.
Beavercreek residents told News Center 7 that they were surprised to hear about the leak.
“This is not normal. You don’t see that happening around here,” Alanna Boggs said. “I thought it was crazy. I never thought I’ll wake up one day and look on Facebook and see something like this happening in my neighborhood.”
The cleanup process could take anywhere between a few months to a few years.
