Police revealed new information about the shooting on Wednesday, saying the shooting happened after a reported planned robbery. One suspect identified as 18-year-old Jaron Coley, was arrested on Tuesday.

“Mr. Coley was arrested in the 1800 block of Clay Street with the assistance of the Springfield SWAT team,” Springfield Police Sergeant James Byron said.

Byron said Coley set up a drug deal at the home, but not so he could buy drugs. Instead, he reportedly did that so a group he was with could get into Sharp’s home and rob him, but gunfire ended up being exchanged.

As shown on News Center 7 at 5:00, our team asked Byron what they found inside the house.

“I’m just going to say that there was evidence that would support the robbery, the intended robbery, that was located in the house,” he said. “And I don’t want to go into it any further.”

Police are still working to find out who did the shooting, but officers called Cummings an “accomplice” in an arrest report.

As for Coley, he’s now facing charges of aggravated murder, murder, aggravated robbery, and aggravated burglary. He’s currently booked in the Clark County Jail.

Anyone with more information about the investigation is asked to contact Springfield Police at (937) 324-7716.
