“SNAP/EBT and cash assistance clients are urged to take immediate steps to protect benefits cards,” the county said.

Agencies have shared tips for SNAP/EBT users to protect their accounts:

  • Check to see if the store’s credit card reader sticks out or doesn’t seem secure
  • NEVER share your EBT or cash card number or PIN if asked through an email, text message or over the phone
  • Change your PIN monthly before each scheduled benefit deposit
  • If you believe your benefits were stolen, report it immediately
