Police were called to the 3600 block of E. Second Street around 3:26 p.m. on reports of a shooting, according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch.

Police had an area on N. Garland Avenue near E. Second Street and Washington Park blocked off with crime scene tape.

As shown on News Center 7 at 5:00, John Bedell spoke to a woman who was nearby when the shots were fired and who rushed to help the victim, whom she described as a 15-year-old boy.

Betty London said she was helping her uncle move when she heard five or six shots.

“Then we saw two kids running diagonally across the park and one dropped,” she said. “The other one ran faster and the one who dropped started yelling for help.”

London, who is certified in first aid, said she checked to see if she could see a shooter. When she didn’t she ran to help the victim.

“I yelled for everybody around to grab me a belt and some sort of cloth of any kind, and I put pressure on his gunshot wound,” London said.

London said the teen was shot in his lower abdomen, near his groin area. At one point, London said she had a bystander help her turn the teen over to check for an exit wound.

“We found one, thankfully,” she said. “So we put cloth on the bottom of him too and kind of like sandwiched the cloth down onto him."

After he was taken away by ambulance, an officer told London that the teen was in good condition and that his vitals were stable.

We’re working to gather more information from police about the shooting and the victim’s condition. We’ll provide updates as we learn more.
