Sheriff’s office warning of EBT scams

GREENE COUNTY — The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is warning of EBT scams occurring across the state.

In a post made on Facebook, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office stated they have received multiple reports of Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card skimming and of thieves using EBT cards in other places.

“EBT cards are issued to those in our community that need public assistance. Please be aware that this is occurring across the state to prevent yourself from becoming a victim,” the post read.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking that if you have been a victim of this type of theft, report it to your local police department or sheriff’s office and to Ohio Jobs and Family Services.

“If possible, use the EBT app when making your purchases and keep your card locked when it is not in use,” the post said.
