Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) troopers from the Piqua post and medics responded around 12:51 a.m. to the State Route 571 ramp to I-75 northbound in Tipp City.
Tipp City Fire Chief Cameron Haller told News Center 7 that a semi was traveling on I-75 northbound when it crashed through the sound barrier and ended up in the backyard of a home at the 300 block of Garber Street.
He added that the semi came to rest in an open waterway and that Miami County Hazmat responded due to an unknown amount of diesel fuel that spilled into the drainage area.
The driver extricated from the cab and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Miami County Coroner was also called to the scene, according to Chief Haller.
He also told News Center 7 that the home was not damaged, and no one else was hurt.
The ramp from SR-571 to I-75 NB remains closed. State troopers have also shut down the right lane on I-75 NB past SR-571.
