RIVERSIDE — A local restaurant has added a temporary surcharge to every egg it sells.

Debbie’s Restaurant announced Tuesday on social media this was due to the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influence (HPAI), also known as bird flu.

“Rather than increasing prices across our menu, we will be temporarily adding a 20-cent increase to all eggs,” they said on its Facebook page. “This is a temporary surcharge tied to the unprecedented rise in egg prices due to the bird flu! Thanks for your understanding.”
As previously reported by News Center 7, Waffle House also announced a 50-cent increase due to the continuing egg shortage due to bird flu.
Egg prices have increased as Bird Flu numbers continue to rise across the country.
Debbie’s Restaurant is located at the 2600 block of Valley Street in Riverside.
