As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00 and 6:00, Garrett Stringer-Smith, 31, of Englewood was arrested on two counts of sexual battery.

TRENDING STORIES:

As previously reported on News Center 7, the investigation started when a Twin Valley Community Schools student told a school resource officer that she had been in a relationship with Stringer-Smith since September 2024.

The student was 17 when her contact with the teacher turned into a sexual relationship. She is now 18 years old.

The investigation revealed that the sexual activity took place at several locations, including the school building.

Preble County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Stringer-Smith with a warrant at his Englewood home.

Authorities seized several items for evidence while searching his home.

West Alexandria resident Teresa Cofey said she has family members who go to Twin Valley Schools.

“This teacher is supposed to keep our children safe, and he preyed upon a child and that is sick,” Cofey said.

Alexis Hughes said her child is still young, but she will be having a hard conversation with them soon.

“Watch for the little details, in my opinion, and just try to keep a better eye on the younger youth,” Hughes said. “No means no and no adult needs to tell you to keep secrets from your family.”

Twin Valley Community Local Schools Superintendent Scott Cottingim said the district immediately placed Stringer-Smith on administrative leave after learning about the allegations on Feb. 7.

Stringer-Smith, a high school and middle school teacher, has been relieved of all of his district-related duties and is prohibited from entering district property, according to Cottingim.

“The District has been in contact with local law enforcement and is also undertaking an independent investigation of the allegations brought to our attention.

Please be assured that the District is, and always has been, committed to the safety and best interests of its students. We take that responsibility very seriously. To that end, understand that the District’s investigation into this issue will be prompt and thorough and that the District will take whatever action is appropriate upon the conclusion of its investigation.”
