News Center 7′s Xavier Hershovitz says hospitals like Soin Medical Center in Greene County are not just seeing these flu cases, but the impact too.
As previously reported by News Center 7, the Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association (GDAHA) says they have seen a 74 percent in hospitalizations in just a week.
They said it is adding stress to emergency rooms and creating the possibility for increased wait times.
GDAHA wants to remind people that the emergency room is best for emergencies.
“If it’s non-emergent symptoms, we encourage first contact with your primary care physician and see what they recommend,” said Lisa Henderson with the Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association.
Outpatient visits are up 34 percent in a week. This includes visits to a primary care doctor or urgent care.
“Just really over the last couple of weeks, we’ve seen pretty drastic increases,” Henderson added. “We are seeing definitely a higher than-usual flu and respiratory illness season.”
We will update this story.
