When police got to the scene, they found two men shot on the porch. One man, 35-year-old Clifton Cummings, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second man, 30-year-old Spencer Sharp, was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center where he later died.

As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, police said that they’re still trying to untangle all the circumstances that led to the shooting.

“An initial investigation revealed that this could have been an aggravated burglary or even an aggravated robbery,” Springfield Police Sergeant James Byron said. “Shots were exchanged. Unfortunately, two subjects were killed.”

The shooting happened while a toddler was inside.

“Officers did have to force entry into the house to get that child,” Byron said. “Her welfare is fine, she was not injured in the incident, and she’s been taken care of.”

Police said they’d not had any previous contact with Cummings but were familiar with Sharp, who was the resident of the home where the shooting happened.

As News Center 7 reported on Monday, the home had several security cameras around the outside of the home. Police said those were collected as evidence and are being examined.

Springfield Police believe there may be other people in the community that might have information about the shooting. They’re asked to contact the department at (937) 324-7716.
