Kettering Health Emergency Room Doctor Nancy Pook says it’s important for people to wear layers while outside in this weather.
“You can put gloves on, then mittens. You can wear multiple layers of socks, make sure your ears are covered as well,” Pook said.
Pook said frostbite can develop in just minutes.
“You can have a cold injury to your extremities, especially first your body temperature can go down, it can become hypothermic, especially if wet,” Pook said. “Make sure you pay attention to your ears, to your fingers and toes.”
Pook wants to remind people to take a break when they’re feeling cold or any kind of pain on their body.
“Then you can get back out there but be super careful when it’s cold like this,” she said.
