Firefighters were called to the 300 block of Brandston Ave around 3 a.m. Dec. 24.
Upon arrival, crews found the single-family house already engulfed in flames, melting the sides of the neighboring homes, according to Elyria Fire Chief Joe Pronesti.
Firefighters searched the home immediately but it was already too late, WOIO reported.
They found the 29-year-old man dead in a bedroom. His name has not yet been released.
It is unclear at this time if the man died before the fire started, or if his death is a result of the fire.
No one else was injured, according to Pronesti.
Please remind everyone to check your smoke detectors,” Pronesti stated.
Crews remained on scene until 10:30 a.m. to put out the blaze and investigate the fire, WOIO reported.
The estimated cost of damage to the main house is $120,000. One of the neighboring homes sustained $40,000 in damage, and the other sustained $20,000 worth of damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ohio State Fire Marshal, Elyria Fire Department, and Elyria Police Department.
