Power restored for nearly all AES customers impacted by substation issue

MIAMI VALLEY — Power has been restored for nearly all customers who were impacted by an issue at an AES substation Tuesday evening.

As of 9:45 p.m., 1,326 outages have been reported by AES customers, according to an outage map.

Around 6:15 p.m. a problem with an AES substation caused the outage, according to Mary Ann Kabel, director of corporate communications.

The outage was impacting customers in the areas of Huber Heights, Vandalia, and Tipp City.

Kabel said AES crews are actively making repairs at the substation and doing tests to determine the cause of the outage.

Huber Heights Police Department is urging residents to not call 911 to ask about the outage as they need the lines open for emergencies.

The City of Huber Heights has opened the Wayne High School cafeteria for anyone who may be without power. Anyone who may go to the high school is asked to enter through the student entrance.

The City of Vandalia has opened the Vandalia Recreation Center, at 1111 Stonequarry Road, as a warming center for residents impacted by the outage.

AES Ohio does not have an estimated time for restoration.

“We understand how difficult this outage is during sub-zero temperatures, and we appreciate your patience as we work as quickly and safely as possible to restore power,” AES Ohio said in a social media post.
