In a statement shared by multiple NFL analysts, including Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter, Garrett said his “desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent.”

“The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl,” Garrett wrote. “With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns.”

Garrett said his love for the Northeast Ohio community and the Browns fanbase made the decision one of the toughest of his life.

“These past eight years have shaped me into the man that I am today,” he said.

Garrett was selected first overall by the Browns in the 2017 NFL Draft. Since then, he has become one of the best defensive players in the league. He was named the Defensive Player of the Year for the 2023 season.

The 29-year-old defensive end is currently under contract with Cleveland through the 2026 season, CBS Sports reported.

The request comes a few weeks after Browns general manager Andrew Berry said he wouldn’t trade Garrett, according to CBS Sports
