Multiple agencies called to 2-alarm fire in Fairborn

FAIRBORN — Firefighters responded to a multi-unit apartment building fire in Fairborn Saturday morning.

Firefighters responded to the 2200 block of Chapel Drive at 10:03 a.m, and fire was under control around 11:30 am., Fairborn dispatch confirmed

“On arrival, crews found heavy smoke showing, and upgraded the fire to a second alarm working fire,” Fairborn Fire Department Chief Ryan Williams said.

Fire crews from Beavercreek, Huber Heights, Wright-Patt Fire, Xenia, and Enon-Mad River Township provided aid to help battle the fire.

“The second alarm was in response to the size of the building, multiple living units, and the fire conditions. This additional staffing also allows for a rotation of crews, which is especially helpful in the cold weather,” Williams said.

The fire affected a living area and the attic above, stairs, and a portion of the roof of the three-story apartment building. No one was in the apartment when the fire broke out; however, other apartments were occupied. Fairborn police evacuated those that were in other apartments.

“During the fire, some of our off-duty employees reported in and assisted, and our neighboring departments, including Huber Heights, Riverside, and Wright-Patt, continued to assist with other calls in the jurisdiction,” Williams said.

The building is not a total loss, as many units were saved from the fire. However, the apartment where the fire was located, the above attic and roof sustained heavy fire damage. Some other areas within the building did suffer water damage.
