Kristen Griffith was just a few houses down from the shooting when she heard a noise.
“We heard a couple pops that almost sounded like cars had collided,” Griffith said.
She left her house and walked down McKinley Avenue to find out what happened.
“There was no accident at all,” Griffith said. “Shortly after that, my neighbor had called me and said that there had been an officer-involved shooting down on the corner.”
According to Piqua police, the man died after an officer shot him. The officer was responding to a domestic violence call, police say.
Griffith has lived in Piqua for three years, she said something like this has never happened on her street.
“It just makes me really uncomfortable that this has happened very close to home,” she said.
She thought of her children, who had just gotten home from school.
“Especially because my kids play around here and the bus stop is not very far from here ... they had just walked home from school not even 30 minutes before,” Griffith said.
Piqua police say there is no threat to the community at this time.
