EATON, Preble County — A police department in Preble County has welcomed a new K9 onto the force.

The Eaton Police Division announced on social media that K9 Ruger, a 1-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer, completed his certification process.

K9 Ruger’s first day on the job was Feb. 9, with his handler, Officer Derek Pheanis.
He replaces K9 Rossi who recently retired after five years of service, according to the division.
Rossi’s last day with Officer Pheanis was Feb. 4.
During her five-year career, she had about 300 deployments where she located narcotics, missing people, and evidence.
“Rossi was a great ambassador for the department by going to job fairs, career days, and visiting our local schools,” the division said.
Rossi will enjoy her retirement at home with her handler, Officer Pheanis.
The division wishes Rossi the best in retirement and welcomes K9 Ruger to the team.
