Local ‘hero’ awarded free car, $10,000 for community service

DAYTON — A local man has won a free car and $10,000 after being voted 2024 Jeff’s Hero from Jeff Schmitt Auto Group.

Casey Tingley was voted Jeff’s Hero for his “relentless dedication to community service and inspiring leadership through disaster relief,” according to a release from Jeff Schmitt Auto Group.

Tingley founded the nonprofit Ohio Hope Builders. He organized over 250 volunteers for tornado cleanup efforts, organized relief drives for hurricane victims, and helped establish warming shelters during the winter, the release says.

“I am delighted that I am not tasked with picking the winner, as each and every finalist I’ve met this year has been incredible. It was an honor to learn each Hero’s story and share them via our platform. Congratulations to Casey and to our other finalists who are truly, making this world a better place!” Jay Schmit, President of the Jeff Schmitt Auto Group, said.

Other finalists for 2024 Jeff’s Hero were Emerge Recovery and Trade Initiative, The Mefford Family, and Jan Hillman with Breast Wishes. Each finalist received $5,000.
