Firefighters didn’t find anyone, but did find themselves in a very dangerous situation.
“We had the second-floor collapse into the basement and we had firefighters operating on the second floor,” McCoy said.
Two firefighters called a “mayday”, requesting help, they fell two floors and were trapped under debris.
“We were able to successfully, immediately remove those firefighters from inside the structure. we got them out of the cold to medic units and they both are fine,” McCoy said.
McCoy said crews are grateful the two firefighters are safe.
He said he will notify the city about the collapse so if firefighters have to come back they know the structure is unstable.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
