A Montgomery County dispatch supervisor said hazmat crews responded to a “hazardous materials” call at the Fifth Third Building, 1 S Main Street, at approximately 7:42 p.m.

TRENDING STORIES:

Dayton Fire Department District Chief Matt McClain said crews were called to the building after maintenance personnel reached out about “a spill of an unknown substance.”

“Out of an abundance of caution, they called the fire department out,” McClain said.

Hazmat crews collected a few samples and will send them to get tested in a lab.

McClain said crews determined the spill was not immediately hazardous and posed no threat.

No one was injured or hospitalized during this incident.

“Any of these Hazamt runs take a while. You know we take our time with everything. Everything is a slow, meticulous process on these kind of calls,” McClain said.

The Dayton Police Department was called to the scene for traffic control.

McClain said DPD likely reached out to “other law enforcement groups.”

“I think they were just running through their list of who to contact just in case there was any issues,” he said.

News Center 7 crews on scene see at least two hazmat vehicles, several Dayton Fire Department crews and crime scene tape blocking to area.
