“It is with great sadness to inform you that the Bellville Police Department lost an outstanding officer. Officer Summer Kennard tragically passed away on February 3, 2025, in a vehicle accident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Kennard’s Family and Friends. She will always remain in our hearts and minds here within the Department,” the department said.

Our CBS affiliate WOIO in Cleveland reports that the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is investigating the crash.

They said a 2010 Toyota RAV4 was traveling eastbound on U.S. 42 just after 5:30 a.m. in Gilead Township on Monday. It went off the right side of the road, overcorrected, and traveled left of center.

Officer Kennard drove the Toyota and got hit by a 2013 Ford F-150 going westbound on U.S. 42. Medics transported her to an area hospital where she died from her injuries, OSHP said.

The crash remains under investigation.
