According to Bethel Township Fire Department Chief James Snyder, the occupants were able to get out of the house and call 911 after noticing the fire in the walls.
“We had to call mutual aid, had to get tankers because there’s no hydrants in this area and had a good fire going by the time we got out here,” Chief Snyder said.
Snyder added that the one-lane road and lack of hydrants in the area caused a challenge for firefighters.
“There’s not too much room for vehicles. No vehicles can go side by side on this road. We had to have tankers daisy-chained back behind each other,” Snyder said. “As soon as they empty, they go refill, but they have to find the nearest hydrant, which is, from here, down by Speedway Drive in Mad River Township.”
Snyder said that the fire moved up the walls and into the attic.
News Center 7 crews saw smoke and flames coming from the roof of the structure.
Snyder added that the breeze helped keep the fire burning while crews were trying to put it out.
Several tankers and engines responded as mutual aid from Wright-Patterson AFB Fire Department, Mand River Township Fire Department, and Springfield Township Fire Department.
No one was injured, according to Snyder. The fire was put out just before 11 a.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Bethel Township Fire Department.
