City crews in Troy are working around the clock to figure out how the break happened and fix it.

Anyone who gets their water from the City of Troy is under a boil advisory as disease-causing illnesses may have entered the water supply and the water tower in the high service area has dropped levels.

The advisory is in effect for the next 48 hours.

“The City of Troy has no evidence at this time that the water system is contaminated. The possibility, however, does exist that the water system is contaminated and is issuing this advisory as a precaution,” the city said in a social media post.

Several people told News Center 7 that they are trying to stay positive about the situation.

“I mean, you gotta make light of the situation. Work it out,” Troy resident Antoinette Watts said.

Watts found out about the water main break Friday afternoon.

“Man, I feel bad for everybody else who you know just is going through something already,” Watts said.

Troy City Engineer Jill Rhoades said crews found a foot-long break just outside of the city’s water plant.

After the water line is fixed, crews will “be flushing the line to get as much of the sediment and debris or anything that got into the controlled break out,” Rhoades said.

News Center 7 saw several businesses that closed early due to the boil advisory, including Asian Bistro, Subway and Jubies.

West Milton Service Director Ben Herron told News Center 7 that West Milton and Ludlow Falls residents will also be under a boil advisory for the next 48 hours as they get their water from Troy.

Approximately 4,800 people in West Milton and 300 to 400 people in Ludlow Falls have been affected.

If you are under a boil advisory, do not drink the tap water without boiling it and contact your doctor if you experience persistent gastrointestinal issues.

News Center 7 is working to learn more and will continue to follow this story.
