DAYTON — Tykwon Washington, 22, was shot and killed while sitting in his car with his friend on Nov. 7 and on Saturday, his loved ones returned to the spot he was killed to celebrate his life and keep his memory alive.

News Center 7′s Kayla McDermott spoke with Washington’s mother, Nina Washington, at the balloon release in his honor. She said a part of herself floated away with the balloons.

“It’s just like my heart just went up with those balloons, you know, it’s something that I can’t get back,” Nina Washington said.

According to deputies, Washington and a friend were sitting the parking lot of an apartment complex on Forest Park Court when someone started firing a gun.

A candlelit vigil followed the balloon release. Over 20 of Washington’s family and friends came together to grieve and remember him.

Kaylynn Hill told News Center 7 about the lessons Washington taught her.

“He taught me a lot; just being free spirited, not letting certain things bother you and not letting things bother you at all” Hill said. “I would definitely say he rubber off on me for the better.”

Washington was remembered as a smart young man, who was interested in engineering and had dreams of making movies.

At this time, investigators do not have any suspects or a motive. Family and friends said they are hoping for answers and closure soon.

“He wasn’t out here running the streets, gangbanging and selling drugs or doing anything. He went to work, he came home, sat in his car talking with his friend, doing what he always does and for that, he was taken away,” Nina Washington said.
