Springfield Fire Chief Jacob King said the fire is believed to be accidental, resulting from an “electrical overload in a multi-plug adapter in the basement.”

King said the adapter was connected to multiple devices and extension cords, creating a hazardous electrical load.
The smoke detectors in the home were not working.
Several ruptured oxygen cylinders in the home also added a challenge to fighting the fire.
King reminded the community to ensure smoke detectors are installed on every level of the home and tested monthly, as well as to avoid overloading electrical outlets and daisy-chaining exertion cords.
