Dayton’s last-second alley-oop beats Loyola Chicago in overtime

DAYTON — The University of Dayton men’s basketball won a thriller at the UD Arena on Saturday.

The game was tied in the final seconds when Malachi Smith threw a full-court alley-oop to Amael L’Etang to beat Loyola Chicago, 83-81, in overtime.

It came after a fastbreak layup by Jalen Quinn tied the game at 81-81 with 3 seconds. UD inbound it to Smith who threw to L’Etang for the game-winning layup with two-tenths of a second left.

Enoch Cheeks led all scorers with the Flyers with 26 points and made six treys. Javon Bennett and Smith each scored 15. L’Etang added 11 in his second start of the season.

Dayton improves to 12-6 overall, and 2-3 in the Atlantic 10.

They travel to Pittsburgh on Tuesday to play Duquesne at 7 p.m.
