Dayton leads Saint Joseph’s wire-to-wire for 3rd straight win

DAYTON — The University of Dayton men’s basketball never trailed Friday night in a 77-72 victory over Saint Joseph’s at the UD Arena.

Nate Santos tied a season-high to lead all scorers with 24 points, 17 in the first half. Amaël L’Etang added 14. Javon Bennett and Malachi Smith each scored 12 points.

Dayton improves to 14-6 overall, and 4-3 in the Atlantic 10. They have now won three games in a row.

UD led by as many as 19 points in the first half and led 39-26 at halftime.

The Hawks kept fighting and got as close as three points (73-70 and 75-72) in the final seconds.

Smith and Bennett sealed the game with two free throws each for the Flyers.

Dayton’s next game will be Tuesday night, Jan. 28, when they travel to Olean, NY to play at St. Bonaventure at 8 p.m.
