Eggs are just one item on the Blue Berry Cafe menu.

Kelley Andary has owned the Kettering location since it opened last year, she said the restaurant is feeling the impact of higher egg prices.

“It is cutting our bottom line pretty much,” she said.

Two Miami Valley restaurants have placed a surcharge on any egg orders, Waffle House is charging 50 cents extra and Debbie’s Restaurant in Riverside is adding 20 cents to the bill.

“If they raise the prices, I still come here and eat eggs,” Patti Russell-Campbell said.

But Andary said they don’t want to raise prices, even if it means less profit.

“Right now we’re dipping into savings to just make sure that everything is kind of staying the same for everybody,” she said.

Andary said she is trying to stick it out until prices come down.

But the Ohio Department of Agriculture Director Brian Baldridge said they’re seeing more positive bird flu tests nearly every day.

“It varies from anywhere from probably 40, 45 days to 75 days depending on the size,” Baldridge said.
