Coroner IDs man, woman killed in New Year’s Day shooting

DAYTON — A man and woman killed in a shooting in Dayton on New Year’s Day have been identified.

Taronn Pate, 23, and Toni Owensby, 22, were identified Thursday by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

As News Center 7 previously reported, police were called to the 1100 block of Dennison Avenue on reports of a shooting around 3:21 a.m. on Wednesday.

In a 911 call, a man told dispatchers he was driving through the area of Dennison Avenue when he saw a car with flashing lights and it looked like someone had shot at the car.

“The two individuals in there, ma’am I ran away as fast as possible,” the man told the dispatcher.

The dispatcher asked the caller if it looked like the people inside were alive.

“No ma’am,” the man replied.

News Center 7 has reached out to Dayton Police for additional information about the shooting, including if a suspect has been identified or arrested. We haven’t received a response at the time of this report.
