Cedarville student, family injured in fiery Pennsylvania plane crash

SPRINGFIELD — A Cedarville University student remains in the hospital after being involved in a private plane crash in Pennsylvania earlier this week.

As News Center 7 reported on Tuesday, Judah White, a sophomore, was traveling back to campus from spring break when the plane crashed in Manheim Township, Pennsylvania, his hometown.

As reported on News Center 7 at 6:00, two sources confirmed that White was on the plane with his dad, mom, and sister. A family friend who is considering Cedarville University and was scheduled to tour campus on Monday was also on board.

All five people on board were hospitalized following the crash. Two people were released from the hospital on Sunday night, while three remain hospitalized.

News Center 7 learned on Wednesday that White and his father are in critical condition.

Flight records show the plane was supposed to land at Springfield Beckley Municipal Airport, but it crashed in a retirement community parking lot shortly after taking off.

In a statement shared with WHP-TV, a CBS affiliate in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Venture Jets confirmed White’s dad and their executive board member, Matthew White, was the pilot.

Venture said the flight was not operated by the company, saying it was a personal flight in a privately owned plane.

“Thankfully, Matt and his passengers survived the mishap and are in good medical care.,” the statement read.

In Cedarville, students told News Center 7 that they were praying for White and his family.

“Surrounding family as much we can with just prayer and just helping them through the process as much as possible,” Logan Fresh, a Cedarville freshman, said.

A preliminary report from the Federal Aviation Administration reveals that the crash was an “accident” and described the flight as “personal.”

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
