Community collecting donations after family loses everything in area house fire

WAYNE COUNTY, Indiana — A community is collecting donations for a family who lost everything in a house fire in Wayne County over the weekend.

The fire occurred in the 3000 block of Flatley Road before 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to a spokesperson with the Webster Township Fire Department.

Upon arrival, Webster Township Fire Department crews found the house fully engulfed.

The spokesperson said additional fire departments were called to the scene, including the Centerville Fire and Rescue and Williamsburg-WMFD Fire, Clay Township – Greens Fork Volunteer Fire Department, and Fountain City Fire and Rescue.

The residents were out of town at the time of the fire and pets were the only ones inside.

Firefighters marked the fire under control about 50 minutes later.

The Red Cross was called to help the residents.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Webster Township Fire Department set up a spot for community members to donate items for the family.

The spokesperson said clothing items are needed for a 9-year-old girl, 9-year-old boy, 7-year-old boy, 16-year-old girl, and a mother.

They could also use items like books, stuffed animals, and blankets.

Several community members have already made clothing donations to the family, which were recently picked up, according to the spokesperson.

A special bank account has been set up for the family at the Wayne County Federal Credit Union, at 3010 W Main Street in Richmond.

Anyone who wishes to make monetary donations can do so at the credit union under “Jana Johnson special account,” according to the spokesperson.
