The announcement comes about five years after Scouting opened its programs to girls.
Rebranding efforts are part of the organization’s 115th anniversary, according to the Miami Valley Council.
“This change reflects Scouting’s continued commitment to welcoming all youth to experience the life-changing benefits of its programs,” the council said.
There are approximately 176,234 girls currently apart of Scouting America.
The council said it has been an integral part of Scouting America’s mission to provide “opportunities for youth to develop essential life skills, become leaders, and prepare for lives of purpose and impact.”
This year, Scouts across Montgomery, Preble, Drake, Shelby, and Miami counties have contributed more than 10,000 hours of service, according to the council.
“With nearly 20% of our local membership now made up of girls, this rebranding solidifies our commitment to ensuring that any young person or family can give their child the opportunity to get outdoors, away from screens, and into nature where they can learn, grow, and thrive,” Scout Executive and CEO of the Miami Valley Council Jeff Schiavone said.
