News Center 7 reached out to Kettering Health officials to learn more about injuries related to icy conditions.

Health officials said they typically see more people get hurt by falling when the weather gets bad.

“I was coming inside for my house and I did slip,” Xenia resident Alayna Mangan said.

Mangan goes to Xenia High School. She was glad to hear that school was canceled Tuesday due to the road conditions.

The district now has a two-hour delay for Wednesday.

“It definitely is slippery outside, and I definitely do feel bad for those people that have to walk in it,” Mangan said.

Warner Middle School students Djuan Russell Jr and Keoioin Lightfoot agreed.

They were walking to a nearby gas station to pick up snacks Tuesday night.

“The snow is very deep,” they said.

They spent the last two days huddled up inside or helping people shovel their driveways.

Both said the conditions were better on Tuesday.

“They were like really, really bad. My mom had got stuck, I had to push her car out of the snow,” one said.

“Yeah I had to clear my mom’s car so me and her could get out,” the other said.

As students head back to school, there will be more first-time drivers on the roads like Mangan.

“Take your time, no matter if people are rushing you, because I think safety is more important because you’re definitely helping out other people by going slow, even though they might be mad, its better to go slow than speed,” she said.
