Denzil Ritchie said he was headed south on the highway Saturday afternoon when he noticed big rocks in the road. He tried to avoid the rocks but saw three heads peak up from behind a guard rail.
“The bang was so loud that the guys I was talking to on the phone said, ‘Oh my god, somebody just hit you,‘” Ritchie said.

Ritchie pulled over and got out of his car, but said the teens took off running.
“It’s a couple thousand-dollar repair for sure. I got to get my higher bumper replaced and my headlight,” Ritchie said.
Two reports of similar damages were made in 2024, according to Riverside Police Department reports. Drivers reported to police they believed the damage was a result of a group of teens that threw rocks into traffic.
Steve Campbell, of Riverside, said these reports of damage has him looking for alternative routes to take until the teens are caught.
“I’ll just go (U.S. Route) 35 to (Interstate) 75 instead of going Route 4, but whatever’s safest,” Campbell said.
Until those who threw the rocks are caught, Campbell said drivers will have to keep their eyes peeled.
“That’s a scary thing to be out on the highway and have to worry about looking up and making sure nobody’s throwing a rock at you,” Campbell said.
