FRANKLIN — A crossing guard at an area school district was hit by a vehicle while helping students cross an intersection on Friday.

The guard was in the process of making sure students crossed the street safely around 7:20 a.m. when they were hit by a vehicle near Franklin Junior High School, according to Franklin City Schools.

The guard, only identified as a female, was transported to Atrium Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of their injuries.
The district said no students were injured in the crash.
“Crossing guards play a vital role in keeping our students safe, and we’re keeping her in our thoughts as she recovers,” Superintendent Michael Sander said.
The driver of the vehicle was cited and the crash remains under investigation.
The district urges all drivers to “remain vigilant, obey traffic laws, and exercise extreme caution around school zones.”
