Area police officer injured while arresting man on warrant

UNION CITY, Randolph County — A 29-year-old man is facing several charges after fighting police officers while under arrest on Friday.

Union City police officers were called to reports of a domestic dispute in the 400 block of W. Oak Street, according to a spokesperson from the department.

Upon arrival, officers identified the person involved as Jason Yoakum, 29.

The spokesperson said he had an active warrant for resisting law enforcement.

Officers tried to arrest Yoakum, but he reportedly resisted and attacked them.

The spokesperson said Yoakum ultimately cooperated and was taken into custody.

One officer sustained injuries and was taken to a local hospital. It is unclear how severe their injuries are.

Yoakum was also hospitalized for injuries he got while resisting arrest, the spokesperson said.

After he was released from the hospital, Yoakum was booked in the Randolph County Jail on the following charges:

  • Resisting law enforcement resulting in bodily injury
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Two counts of possession of a syringe
  • Two counts of battery on law enforcement
  • Battery on law enforcement resulting in bodily injury
