An initial investigation showed that a 2025 Mack Anthem commercial semi was going westbound on U.S. 35 when it hit the rear end of a 2024 Volkswagen Jetta, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).
The impact caused the Jetta to go off the right side of the road and into a ditch.
The semi went through the grassy median before stopping in the eastbound lanes. Images from the scene showed the semi ended in a jackknifed position.
The driver of the Jetta, Dontay L. Henderson, 41, Dayton, and front passenger, William L. Pointer, 46, Dayton, were both transported to local hospitals with serious, life-threatening injuries, according to OSHP.
The driver of the semi, Thierno B. Bah, 34, Columbus, was not injured in the crash.
The crash caused both directors of U.S. 35 to be closed, but all lanes have since reopened.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
