On Jan. 29 around 9 a.m., Springfield officers were called to a school, Opportunities Industry Center, after staff said they found a gun in a student’s backpack with a loaded magazine.

Staff said the backpack belonged to Parker Hall, according to a probable cause affidavit.

An officer handcuffed Hall and patted him down, initially not finding anything.

As Hall and the officer were leaving the school, he told the officer he had another gun on him.

Officers found another gun in Hall’s pant leg, the affidavit alleges.

The gun was a Glock 23 with what appeared to be a “switch” — a device that converts a pistol into an automatic weapon — and a loaded magazine inside it.

Just having one is a federal crime and can earn you 10 years in prison, I-Team’s John Bedell previously reported.

The mere possession of one is not a state crime in and of itself here in Ohio. However, having one in your possession while you commit another crime is an automatic firearm specification in the Buckeye State that can land you in state prison for at least six years.

Hall told officers the gun was not his and that another student, Tavion Compton, had asked him to hold it for him.

Officers arrested Compton.

Security footage showed Compton and Hall entering the bathroom at the same time.

Both are booked in the Clark County Jail.

We will continue to follow this story.
