2 adults, 3 children escape Ohio arson

CANTON — Five people. including three children, were able to escape a fire that’s suspected to be arson in Northeast Ohio Thursday night.

The fire was reported around 9:30 p.m. in a home in Canton, WOIO in Cleveland reported.

The Canton Fire Department told WKYC in Cleveland that there were reports of people possibly trapped on the second floor.

When they got to the scene, firefighters found that two adults and three children had been able to safely get out of the house.

No injuries were reported.

An investigation showed that the fire started in a first-floor closet, WKYC reported. It then spread into the ceiling and extended to the front porch.

The fire has been determined to be intentionally set and 41-year-old Franchessai Winston-Johnson was arrested on aggravated arson charges, WOIO reported.
