Man arrested after attack with hatchet leads to hours-long standoff in Montgomery County

RIVERSIDE — A man was arrested after a stabbing led to an hours-long SWAT standoff in Riverside on Monday.

As reported on News Center 7 at 11:00, one person was stabbed in the 1700 block of Brandt Pike just before 6 p.m., according to

Riverside Police Sergeant James Vance said the male victim was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Vance confirmed that there was a hatchet involved in the stabbing.

While investigating, police learned the suspect lived in a house down the street, in the 1900 block of Brandt Pike.

News Center 7 crews watched as Riverside police officers started making announcements towards the house around 7 p.m.

Vance said neighbors in the area were asked to shelter in place or leave the area, but most people decided to stay in their homes.

The Montgomery County Regional SWAT team was called to the scene before 9 p.m.

Vance said the SWAT team obtained a search warrant for the address, went inside and arrested the man.

The suspect’s identity was not immediately available.

Brandt Pike was blocked between Beatrice Drive to Ingleside Avenue for about four hours.
